Melissa Highsmith, 53, was taken from her Post Worth, Tex., home on Aug. 23, 1971, by an individual acting like a sitter, her family says.

After many years separated, the Highsmith kin tell Individuals a DNA match affirmed the news they were hanging tight for such a long time: Melissa, who grew up as Melanie Miyoko, was truth be told alive and the tragically missing sister they had been looking for.
Melissa tells Individuals while the news stunned her, it checked out, after a rough childhood by the individual whom she thinks was her abductor.
“At first I needed to be furious,” she says. “Furthermore, I was furious.” Melissa says she and the one who raised her only a little ways from where she was snatched, “were rarely close.”
“The entire time I was there, it was a terrible youth,” she says. “I wasn’t permitted to head outside and play, and she generally protected me,” Melissa reviews.
“Furthermore, she said she protected me because on the grounds that I was born at home and that I had mind harm.”
“I used to ask, ‘For what reason did she try and have me in the event that she didn’t need me?’” Melissa says she took off as a high schooler.
Starting around a couple of days prior, she says she is done speaking with the one who professed to be her mom.
While the Highsmiths say they never surrendered trust on tracking down Melissa, her mother Alta Apantenco, 73, concedes the 51-year search was deterring.

“My family accepted that she was as yet alive, and I needed to trust it, yet I had been disheartened so often that I just told them, ‘Let me well enough alone,’” Alta tells Individuals.
“I said, ‘You go on, and you attempt to track down Melissa, yet kindly avoid me with regard to it since I would rather not reach out.’ I needed to let it go, yet they would have rather not.”
Furthermore, their steadiness paid off. After the DNA match affirmed Melissa was their sister, Rebecca, 48; Victoria, 47; Sharon, 45; and Jeff, 42, found her through Facebook and they consented to meet. Up until this point, Melissa has been brought together with her mother and father Jeffrie Highsmith, 72, alongside kin Victoria and Jeff.
Rebecca and Sharon plan to invest energy with Melissa in Post Worth around Christmas.
“I’m anticipating getting to meet everybody,” Melissa says. “It will be something to become accustomed to really having such a lot of family when I didn’t have any.” The family says they intend to connect with Stronghold Worth police to talk about whether the ruffian can some way or another be arraigned, however they were allegedly told by specialists that the legal time limit in Texas ran out quite a while back.
